The city of Cordova was founded in 1835 as a farming village. The city was previously a stop on the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railway route to Memphis. Its usefulness in the railroad industry spurred its growth. The old train depot still stands in Cordova, and it was even the location of Cordova’s first library for fifty years. Today the city has grown from its farming roots into a well-established part of the Memphis community.
Cordova is located about sixteen miles east of Memphis. A large part of Cordova has been annexed by the city of Memphis, and the remaining area of Cordova is considered unincorporated. All of Cordova is included in Shelby County. Cordova’s population is just over 60,000. The median home sale price is $198,650, and the median rent is $1,399.
