At My Town Movers, we are committed to providing exceptional moving services with the highest level of care and professionalism. However, moving can involve certain risks, and to ensure transparency and mutual understanding, we have outlined the following Limits of Liability. If you have any questions about these protocols, we encourage you to contact our office prior to your scheduled move—we’re here to help.
1. Standard Liability Coverage
Unless additional coverage is purchased, all moves are covered by Basic Carrier Liability at $0.60 per pound per item, which is the industry standard and required by federal law. This is not full replacement coverage.
Example: A 40-pound item would be covered up to $24 if damaged beyond repair (40 lbs × $0.60 = $24).
We highly recommend considering third-party moving insurance for enhanced protection, especially for high-value items.
2. Mechanical Condition of Items
All items are moved under the assumption of “mechanical condition unknown.” My Town Movers does not accept liability for any internal or operational failures unless there is visible external damage. This applies especially to electronics and appliances.
3. High-Value & Personal Items
We kindly ask that customers personally transport any items of extraordinary value. My Town Movers is not responsible for any loss or damage to the following items during transport:
- Jewelry
- Firearms and ammunition
- Prescription medications
- Cash or personal documents
- Electronics (e.g., radios, computers, tablets, etc.)
Items valued at $100 per pound or more are classified as extraordinary value. Please transport these items yourself to avoid risk.
4. Appliances, Equipment & Waterlines
We are happy to move appliances and equipment. However:
- We do not assume responsibility for electrical or water-related damage due to connection or disconnection.
- If our team disconnects or reconnects water lines, it is done purely as a courtesy.
- We are not licensed plumbers, and the customer is responsible for verifying all connections before the movers leave.
- For front-loading washers, customers must ensure that shipping/stabilizer bolts are installed prior to the move. We can assist upon request, but are not liable for any resulting damage.
5. Structural Damage (Floors, Walls & Ceilings)
While our team takes every precaution to protect your property, moving large or oversized furniture may cause accidental scuffs or damage. Our liability is limited to $100 per home for damage to walls, floors, or ceilings.
6. Loading Customer-Owned Trucks, Trailers, or PODS
When we provide loading-only services (e.g., for customer-rented trucks, trailers, or PODS), this service is performed entirely at the customer’s own risk. As we are not transporting the vehicle, our insurance policy does not cover any damage to items once loaded.
7. Operating Trucks Off Pavement
To protect your property and our equipment, My Town Movers does not drive trucks off paved surfaces.
In rare cases—such as rural locations, farms, or businesses—customers may request that we drive on grass or unpaved areas. If we do so, it is completely at the customer’s risk. We will not be responsible for damage to lawns, septic systems, or other property.
8. Powerlines & Overhead Clearance
Customers are responsible for ensuring that powerlines and cables meet clearance standards. If overhead wires are too low, please notify us by email before your move. We cannot be held liable for any issues related to low-hanging powerlines or cabling.
9. Truck Parking & Driveways
While most standard driveways can support the weight of our trucks, My Town Movers is not responsible for any cracks or damage to driveways, regardless of condition. If you do not want our trucks on your driveway, you must:
- Block off the driveway with cones or other visible barriers
- Notify us in writing via email prior to your move day
We will gladly accommodate your request to park elsewhere when notified in advance.
10. Claims & Damage Reporting
To help us serve you best:
- Please inspect your items upon delivery and note any damage immediately on your delivery receipt.
- Submit any claims to our office in writing within 7 days of your move.
- We reserve the right to inspect and repair damaged items when applicable.
We truly appreciate your trust in My Town Movers and look forward to making your move a smooth and stress-free experience.
